The role
SentryOS is the software on board every Scout. It talks to the autopilot, manages power and comms, runs the sensors and keeps the boat alive for months at sea. You will be its first dedicated owner. You will also build the automated testing we do not have yet.
What you will do
- Own and improve SentryOS: Python and Bash on Raspberry Pi, running as systemd services.
- Integrate ArduPilot over MAVLink and keep Starlink, Iridium and 4G comms reliable at sea.
- Build automated tests, a hardware-in-the-loop bench and a release process from scratch.
- Investigate problems from boats in the field and fix the root cause.
- Join sea trials on the Dorset coast.
What we are looking for
- 5+ years of working experience building software on Linux for physical systems.
- Strong Python and shell. Deep, practical Linux: systemd, networking, serial buses, embedded boards.
- You have built a test and release process for hardware before.
- ArduPilot, PX4, MAVLink or similar is a plus.
- Passionate about protecting the ocean. Tell us why in your application.
